Corporate layoffs moderate

This should probably go in the "positive" column. Announced corporate layoffs in February were over 20% less than they were in January, and the pace of layoffs of late hasn't exceeded what we saw in the 2001 recession. I find it quite interesting that layoff activity is not in fact much higher, given that we are 14 months into a recession that is worse than the last one, and the news has been awful for quite some time.
