Corporate layoffs don't point to a recession
Challenger, Gray & Christmas track announced corporate layoffs every month. So far, layoff activity through September is only up modestly from recent lows, and less than half the levels which we saw during the last recession, which was mild by historical standards.

Things just aren't as bad as the press makes them seem. Unemployment claims haven't rise for the past 4 weeks, for example.
