Why I still like AAPL (2)

Go here to watch a just-released series of videos/guided tours which show Apple's new iPad in action. It's simply amazing. I ordered mine awhile ago and expect to receive it this Saturday. I can't wait! I haven't seen anything this slick, fast, and beautiful in my life. Apple has a real winner here. Watch the iBook video and you'll quickly realize that the iPad makes the Kindle utterly obsolete.

  2. I have been thinking about purchasing a Kindle for a while and have been impressed by the i-phones I have seen. My hang-up has been the issue of phone connectivity. I had ATT and Sprint years ago and experienced lots of frustration with dropped calls and lousy connections. Verizon really improved that. I know you said that you have hearing loss, do you find the i-phone satisfactory? I would think that quality of connection is important for you.

  4. rg32: The AT&T exclusivity is probably the worst thing you can say about the iPhone. Verizon's network is superior, to the best of my knowledge. I don't think AT&T's problem is with the quality of calls, however. The problem is with dropped calls and network congestion that can really slow down data speeds.

My wife has an iPhone which she uses a lot more than I use mine (I use mine mainly for email and internet browsing when out of the house), and she has complained of dropped calls for a long time. Her complaints have become less frequent however, and that may have to do with all the money AT&T is spending to improve its network.

I had a noticeable problem last October when I was in downtown Manhattan: my phone showed strong signal strength but I was very often unable to get a data connection. I haven't experienced that problem anywhere else, however.

  5. It's probably a great investment but Apple is now the 3rd largest company in the S&P, widely held by institutions, one of the most popular hedge fund holdings.... At this multiple, there's more downside if they blow it than upside if they don't
