Here's an updated version of a chart I've been showing for awhile, which suggests that outbound container shipments from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are a good leading indicator for U.S. goods exports. The most recent news shows that container shipments are still going strong.
Mark Perry has a related post, in which he notes that "Container counts at the LA Port have increased in six out of the last eight months, and reached the highest total level since last November."
