Your observations are largely correct. Household debt service burdens aren't frightening at all. The U.S. economy can support the current deficit for awhile. But what is really bad now is the level of government spending, and that is headed for new all time highs as a % of GDP. That is a deadweight drag on growth.Scott Grannishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14028519647946868684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6616959642391988608.post-49637547012140933662010-01-08T11:07:51.724-08:002010-01-08T11:07:51.724-08:00There has been a huge increase in those receiving ...There has been a huge increase in those receiving Emergency Unemployment compensation. This comes thanks to politicians who feel sorry for people suffering from job loss. Unfortunately there is a side effect: it greatly reduces the incentive for some 5 million people to look for jobs. So this tends to increase the number of people sitting around doing nothing.

The administration'sScott Grannishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14028519647946868684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6616959642391988608.post-13694006676670132752010-01-08T10:23:04.639-08:002010-01-08T10:23:04.639-08:00I'm sorry my question is off-topic.

The US has much lower % than Europe and Japan for instance.
For household debt, I find ability to repay debt relatively more important.
